We love mountain bike racing, plain and simple! For us racing doesn’t need to be serious, it’s just a great way to socialise with like minded people while honing your skills on the bike and having a good time.

Rex and I started racing mountain bikes over 10 years ago. In that time we have forged life long friendships (one that resulted in Humble Bicycle Co), learnt some important life lessons, got slightly better at riding and have collected some tall tales that we can tell our grandkids when we are old and grey. We want the future generation of Groms to be able to benefit from racing in the same way that we have, so we have decided to partner with Steve from On Track Coaching to develop our Junior Race Program.

This program was dreamt up to provide a safe and encouraging environment for kids to experience the joys of mountain bike racing, while also providing a framework for individuals to improve their riding and helping them to achieve increasing levels of support as their racing develops. Basically, we want our local Groms to be fast, fun and frothing!

The program is broken up into 3 tiers; the Race Squad, the Race Team and the Race Scholarship.

The squad is tailored to riders who would love to give racing a crack, but are unsure of where to start or find it intimidating. The squad will be made up of 10 to 20 young riders, and is open to anyone who has a genuine interest in getting into racing. The focus of the squad is to provide mentoring and guidance on all things racing, while also providing an environment for the Groms to socialise and create new friendships.

The Race Team is aimed at individuals that already have shown a keen interest in racing and are looking to develop their skills. The Race Team is made up of 6 members that have been hand picked my Steve, Rex and I based on their race results, desire to improve and personal character. For us winning isn’t everything; what we want to see is kids that have a strong work ethic and are willing to help out and support their mates on race day. We want to help turn frothin’ Groms into more than just pinners, we want to mould them into awesome members of the mountain biking community for the long term.

The Race Scholarship is designed to reward one member of the team who has stood out for their positive attitude, desire to improve, for putting their hand up to help other riders out, assisting with events and ability to swing a rake at trail days. The scholarship recipient will receive professional race support for a season, with us supplying a rad Trek bike for them to race on, getting it dialled in, maintaining it and covering their race entries.

We are super excited about this program and hope that it will help foster the stoke with the younger riders in the South-West. Happy shredding!

A big part of race preparation is understanding your equipment. We will be providing mechanical support to ensure everyones bikes are running perfectly on race day.

The South-West Groms already know a thing or two about how to heckle!
